WORST COERCION
We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
Hebrews 2:1
If the word of God is not firmly rooted in our lives, we become like ships without a rudder and drift astray, carried away by the current. The word of God stands firm, solid as a mighty lighthouse, but the sailor must follow its guiding light, otherwise he will sail past without noticing the harbor mouth or the danger of rocks. There are two types of currents that tend to carry us away: the current of reasoning, in which man places himself above the word of God as its judge, and on the other hand the foam of spiritual experiences, in which only what we feel is true. If our own reasoning or experiences become the center of faith, they turn to the worst coercion for us believers.
