GREAT PRAISE OF GRACE
He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
Exodus 12:23
A magnificent praise of grace was God’s promise to Moses that anyone who is bitten can look at the image of the serpent up on a pole and live (Numbers 21:8). Another such proclamation was the blood spread on the doorposts of homes on the first Passover; when the Lord saw the blood, he passed over those houses and did not let the destroyer enter and strike them down. In both cases, the human role was to accept help and protection. Both also serve as paragons of Jesus. Whoever looks at the Savior lifted on the cross and calls him for help belongs to him. The protection of the blood on the doorposts speaks of the atoning blood shed on the cross, under the shelter of which the sinner finds salvation.
